What Was Once
(Proof of Concept)
What Was Once
Length: 1 min
Film Status: Completed & Published
"What Was Once" is a proof of concept that I created after attaining my Sony FX30. I gave myself two hours to shoot and edit something on my own. I spent the first 30-40mins planning and setting up the apartment for the concept. Then I spent 20 mins shooting it, and spent the final hour editing it.
Keys, than a phone, they both lead to an apartment that's wide open. Moving through it, the place is seemingly flipped on it's head with no one around. The concept then comes to an end on a bloody knife, leaving many questions to still be in the air, unaswered.
The proof of concept was created with the purpose of sharpening my cinematography as well as editing. Since, I have a special liking for the night I decided to shoot it during the night. In order to navigate myself through the settings required for darker scenes, compared to the daytime. Another decision I chose to make would be having the concept as a long one take. My reason for doing so is to put in practice my understanding of building tension through camera movement. Which I further practiced during editing, through creating an atmosphere using the color and noise.
